Welcome to the Prologue Race Series 

Welcome to the Prologue Race Series, also known as “The Woodstock Races”. This series consists of three kayak races from Woodstock Downs on the Waimakariri River in Canterbury.

The section of river used for this series is the final section of the famous Coast to Coast kayak leg. The races start at Woodstock Downs and finish at the Waimakariri Gorge Bridge. This section of river is approximately 15km. 

Topsport Kayaking started this race series in November 2015. We had just one race that year with about 30 keen paddlers. We have grown the event steadily and now have over a 100 paddlers each race. 2026 will see the 12th edition of these great races.

Our vision for these races was to provide those new to the sport that much need experience before stepping up to the Waimakariri Classic River Race and the Coast to Coast. The novice class is well supported by our team offering those that need additional support the opportunity to paddle in a supportive environment. 

For all our seasoned paddlers, many who have been with us from the start we look forward to seeing you in September as we kick off the racing season.

Entry Details.

You can enter these races either individually or as a series. Individual race entries close the Sunday night before each race at 8pm. 

Series entries close on Sunday the 27th of September 2026. Single race entries close 7 days prior to the race at 8pm on Sunday night. One the day entries are accepted for an additional $20 late entry fee.
